Women usually experience the menopause between 45 and 55, with 51 being the average age. Since the employment rate in the UK has grown substantially for women aged between 50 and 64, and 80% of women experience menopausal symptoms, it’s not surprising that the menopause can have a significant effect on a woman’s working life.

You reach the menopause when you haven’t had any periods for 12 consecutive months. You go through the perimenopause in the time leading up to your final period. The perimenopause starts when your periods begin to change and/or when menopausal symptoms appear, so it has a rather vague onset but a very well-defined finish.

According to the Vegan Society there has been a 350% rise of veganism in the UK in the last 10 years; bringing it to a total of half a million people. Growing numbers are deciding to be vegetarian or vegan for health reasons. It’s known that a healthy diet, plenty of exercise and keeping weight in check helps to reduce menopause symptoms. But what about going vegetarian or vegan? Are there really further health benefits or are there downsides?
